Russian Army Deserter Detained in Kazakhstan Sentenced to Six Years in Prison
He may have been smuggled out of the country

Kamil Kasimov, who was detained at his workplace in Astana in April 2024, was sentenced to six years for desertion from the Russian Armed Forces. This was told to journalists of the Tyumen media outlet 72.ru by the Kasimov’s acquaintances.
After his arrest, Russian security forces took him to Priozersk, a Kazakh town 600 kilometers south of Astana. In this city there is a Russian military unit №03080 and an airfield operated by the Russian Defense Ministry.
From the Russian unit, Kasimov was taken to Omsk. Under Kazakh law, military offenses do not fall under extradition articles. He was probably taken out illegally. Kasimov pleaded guilty, acquaintances of the deserter said.

Both Kazakh and Russian law enforcers participated in the detention of Kasimov, his brother told IStories. This is not the first time Russian defectors have been caught in Kazakhstan.
